Fox Lake is a little known, but beautiful kayaking spot accessible from the boat ramp at Fox Lake Park in Titusville Florida. Except for the park, the shoreline of Fox Lake is undeveloped and bordered along the western edge by the Fox Lake Sanctuary, a recent 2,800 acre purchase by the Brevard county Environmentally Endangered lands program (Should be opening to the public in Spring of 2013).
From the boat ramp, paddling north along the western edge takes you a small creek the extends a few hundred yards back into the wetlands, while paddling to the north east from the ramp around the point then north will take you to the mouth af a canal of about one mile in length leading to South Lake. South Lake is a larger lake than fox lake and can get choppy in windy conditions, but by following the western shoreline you will come to the mouth of a larger creek which will lead you about a mile or so to the west southwest and open into a pond within the Fox Lake Sanctuary.
While we don’t get the fall colors you get up north here along the Space Coast of East Central Florida, it’s still a great place to visit and or live here. This is the time of year when outdoor activities really begin to pick up here. The fall run of mullet is here in the Indian River Lagoon as well as along our beaches, bring outstanding fishing as redfish, trout, snook, tarpon an many other species of gamefish target the mullet. Fall also means the annual bird migrations are starting, and places like Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Canaveral National Seashore, Sebastian Inlet, and many of our other conservation lands become birding hotspots.

The grey clouds already evident approaching sunrise did not provide much hope for engaging in my favorite genre of photography, landscape and scenic photography, but my chosen destination for the morning, Fox Lake Park here in Titusville, Florida does offer a few other options. With a resident population of Limpkins probing the shorelines and a […]
